Let's say you're a mimic. On 0:54 to 0:56, what possible tactical advantage would you get holding your staff horizontally instead of vertically?

Take notice that they're (Frieren & Clone) opted to "fight fire with fire" here instead of using defensive magic (as it 's shown to be hilariously mana inefficient).

Also the lightning canal is shown to be perpendicular to the wielder's staff, so my headcanon is they position staves like that to avoid pulling charges in the same plane as the enemy. You need the charge to strike your enemy, so that fixes one of the 3D planes and only allows for semicircles in horizontal / vertical planes.

Think about it, as a Clone, why contest pulling/pushing lightning in horizontal plane when you can freely push/pull your own canal of bended lighting in vertical plane?
